Abstract:

Purpose: To explore the impact of information seeking behavior of theses indexers to meet their information needs. Methodology: 35 indexers at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) and the Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology (IRANDOC) composed the statistical population. A Likert scaled questionnaire was used for data collection. SPSS software was used for data analysis. Findings: Information seeking behavior of indexers meets their information needs in 7 components, not for "using sample documents" with a (mean lower than average: 2. 66). The total mean of the 8 components studied was 3. 63 (above the average). The research hypothesis is confirmed as the overall mean exceeds 3 on Likert scale. Conclusion: Respondents have sufficient expertise and experience. Their information-seeking behavior fulfills a high level of information needs at various stages of indexing.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: the current study aims to determine factors which may cause negative feeling such as fear, uncertainty and anxiety during information seeking process.Method: In this review paper, different library resources and databases were searched in the areas of library anxiety, Internet anxiety, computer anxiety, information seeking, information searching and information retrieval to elicit factors which may cause information seeking anxiety. Results: Potential causes of information seeking anxiety were grouped and reviewed in 4 different categories, namely factors associated with information resources, factors associated with computers, the Internet and databases, factors associated with libraries and factors associated with information seeking process. Conclusion: Negative feelings during information seeking process may negatively affect the results of this process. By being aware of the causes of information seeking anxiety, librarians and information systems’ administrators will be in a better position to provide instructions and services which is effective to reduce levels of anxiety during information seeking process.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Collaborative information seeking is an interaction among members of a group who purposefully try to access and share joint information. Although collaboration is a key component of information seeking behavior, but most of the studies in this area are focused on individual information seeking behavior and collaborative aspects are considered much less. As a result, there is a need for understanding conceptual features as well as supportive technical methods of information behavior in collaborative activities.Method: The present review article has studied concepts and theories of collaborative information behavior using library method. Results: In this research, firstly, the concept of collaboration is explained and differences with other concepts like communication, coordination and cooperation are explained. Moreover, the concept of collaborative information behavior and collaborative information seeking behavior are discussed from different viewpoints and suggestions are offered for future research. Conclusion: collaborative information behavior is one of the most important concepts in human information interaction studies and it can be known as dynamic activities in a group including searching, combining, publishing and producing information.

Abstract:

Humans do different behaviors to meet their needs constantly. These behaviors are different and each of them constitutes subject of disciplines such as psychology, sociology, management, art, knowledge and information science, and some specialized sub-disciplines of them. Investigating information behaviors and knowledge behaviors are favorite subjects in knowledge and information science. These behaviors show the main elements of user activity to interact with information and knowledge as well as retrieval systems. This paper with considering the importance of these concepts tries to review the literature through analytical and discussed concepts such as data, information, knowledge, wisdom, and intelligence. Afterward, the prerequisites for the formation of knowledgeseeking behavior are expressed and defined as knowledge-seeking behavior and differentiation with information-seeking behavior. The surveys showed that the concept of knowledge-seeking behavior is an important concept and is very wide so that we can expect to open a new area in literature and research in various fields especially in knowledge and information science. It is necessary to develop and regulate the frameworks in this field.

Abstract:

Objective: This research attempted to compare the feelings and behavior of students in various engineering fields at Dezful Islamic Azad University on the Internet saerching based on Kuhlthau's Information-Seeking Model.Methodology: This research is of a descriptive type and the method is survey and data has been collected through a questionnaire. The sample students were selected through random sampling method which consisted of 340 students from seven engineering fields. Data analysis included descriptive statistics (Frequency and percentage) and analytical statistics (Chi-Square Test).Findings: Findings of this research showed that most students experienced many stages of Kuhlthau’s information-seeking model. That is, when searching information on the Internet, students experienced the second, the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth stages of that Model, and their feelings were the same as those mentioned in Kuhlthau’s model. Conclusion: The results of revealed that male and female students show a significant differences in information- seeking the six stages of Kuhlthau’s information-seeking model; so that, male students more experienced the second, the fourth, and the sixth stages of this Model when searching the Internet. Also, students needed librarians help during the stages 1, 3, 2, 5, respectively.
